So many things to love about this home I toured…the wide plank hardwood floors, the layout, and the historic details added in every inch of this home made it so very tempting. This is what I would call a “new old home” – while not technically “new” (it’s a 30 year old home), it looks like it could be 200 year old country home in Connecticut. While I love this New England style, I still wanted a southern style cottage home, and decided this was not meant to be…but, it was part of the journey and further inspired my goal of building a new old home.
Pros
- LOTS of historic charm
- Close to Emma Claire’s school
- A separate garage/studio for my office
- Beautiful garden grounds
- At the end of cul-de-sac for privacy
- Not an open floor plan (which I prefer)
- Master on main floor
Cons
- Love this style, but still want a southern style cottage
- Not in my hometown (one town over)
- No potential for equestrian property (we are still thinking about using our land this way)
I toured it during an open house knowing it wasn’t meant to be, but it was really helpful in seeing a new old home in person and confirming my idea of making that happen in our future build.
